What I am currently reading…

Richard Dawkins, the evolutionary biologist responsible for such works as "The Selfish Gene" and "Unweaving the Rainbow" has now released his best-selling book, "The God Delusion" in paperback.

This is a book for us atheists! Anyone who is a rationalist would enjoy this book. However, I do fear that Dawkins ends up preaching mostly to the crowd. But I love it. Along with "God is not Great" by Christopher Hitchens and "The End of Faith" by Sam Harris, "The God Delusion" is a book for atheists who are tired of being treated like foolish third rate citizens for not believing in the magic ghost in the sky who fiddles in our affairs and hears our thoughts.

Far from being fanatical or severe, as his critics would claim, this book, much like many others in this "new atheism" movement, is a call for rationality and for seeing the beauty of the universe for what it really is. It is a call for seeking what is accurate over what is desirable.

The book is opened by a quote that sums this up quite well:

"Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?"--Douglas Adams
